Otherwise, the microwaves could continue reflecting back and forth in the middle of the tube and cooking chamber, forming a standing wave and burning out the machine. You should also never microwave food that's been dehydrated or which is wrapped in foil. These materials reflect the wave and cause damage to the oven.
If foods are arranged incorrectly, they may arc. For instance, microwaved grapes could cause a spark, as can fire within the microwave. Never put a burning object in the microwave or allow a fire to burn inside. All foods should be handled with care, even if they don't look hot, to prevent burns.
